Document at the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) to
put you on record at the PTO as the one who conceived and registered
the invention. THIS IS NOT A PATENT. Filing a Disclosure Document at
the USPTO is important because the U.S. patent system works under the
"first to invent" patent policy, as opposed to other countries'
"first to file" patent policy. II. We will provide you with a Secrecy
and Non-Use Agreement drafted by an attorney. We will provide you with a Work-For-Hire
Agreement written by an attorney. III. As part of the international patent search, you will
also receive detailed instructions for keeping a Record
Book (sometimes referred to as an inventor's diary, a lab journal
or scientific notebook). These instructions will give you the same methodology for documenting research and development as most Fortune 500 companies, government labs, universities and companies involved in research and development. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office accepts this type of record keeping. The Inventor's Record Book provides for a documented and witnessed paper trail. It keeps records of those to whom you disclose the invention in commercializing your invention. In the event of a circumvention, you will have documentation of times, dates, disclosures made and the names and information about those parties to whom you disclosed. Properly kept, the Record Book can be the winning difference in a potential dispute or attempted circumvention.
